Upsilon Symbol in Greek Alphabet

Upsilon (uppercase Υ, lowercase υ) is the 20th letter of the Greek alphabet. In the Greek number system, this letter was taken as the symbol of the number 400. Upsilon was derived from the Phoenician wāw meaning "hook". And it was the sixth letter of the Phoenician alphabet. The capital letter (Υ) is used to represent the upsilon meson. Also, a similar appearance of upsilon is used for the sign of Aries in astrology. You can see other usages of the letter in astrophysics, physical cosmology, linguistics and particle physics.

Upsilon, comes after tau, and before phi in the Greek alphabet, is used to indicate an upsilon meson or bottomonium in particle physics. The mass-to-light ratio in astrophysics and physical cosmology is also represented by the Greek letter upsilon. Lancia which is an Italian automobile manufacturer has a super-mini model called The Lancia Ypsilon. It was released in 1995 and took its name from the Greek letter. Also, the voiced labiodental approximant in linguistics is indicated by the lowercase letter upsilon (υ).
