Nu Symbol in Greek Alphabet

Nu (uppercase Ν lowercase ν) is the 13th letter of the Greek alphabet. And it has the value of 50 in the Greek number system. The letter came from the Phoenician language nun (or nūn), which was used to mean serpent. The uppercase Nu (N) is exactly like the Latin N. So that's why it isn't used now. On the other hand, the minuscule nu is used in many areas like statistics, thermodynamics, physics, material science and chemistry.

The lower-case letter Nu "ν" is used in the Modal μ-calculus in theoretical computer science. The letter also denotes the degree of freedom in statistics, neutrino, kinematic viscosity, and the frequency of a wave in physics, as well as the specific volume of a substance in thermodynamics. In biology, the lowercase letter Nu stands for Polymerase (DNA directed) nu. In chemistry, the letter is used as a symbol for the stoichiometric coefficient. In addition, ν (nu) is used to represent Poisson's ratio that is a measure of the Poisson effect and named after the French mathematician, engineer, and physicist Siméon Denis Poisson.
